Report of Asymetric Open Meeting, GYGSC, 22/23 Sep 01
GYGSC held its first Asymetric open meeting last weekend with 5
windward/leeward races sailed using elapsed time handicapping to allow the
20 entries ranging from 49er to RS200 to race for the same length of time
on the same course.
Saturdays races were sailed in an increasing fresh breeze & large sea,
race
1 was won by Barry Bradford & Dave Allen's Bss, practising for their
national championships next week. Race 2 was won by GYGSC's Ramuz trophy
winning team of Ed Hornagold & Josh Hamer sailing an RS800 putting them
into the lead overnight.
Sunday dawned with more breeze & bigger seas to greet the larger fleet
waiting on the beach, race 3 was again won by Hornagold & Hamer
strengthening their lead. Race 2 was one by Chris Sallis & Dick Roe only
sailing their B14 on the Sunday having just returned from their World
Championships at Lake Garda in Italy where they finished 8th. After a late
lunch in the club house the fleet returned to sea in easier conditions &
were led by Martin Browne & Di Holmes sailing their RS400. The eventual
winners of the event were Hornagold & Hamer, with the consistent
perfomances of Andrew Friend & James Wolf sailing a 29er rewarding them
with seccond with Browne & Holmes third.
