RS FAT FACE RACING CIRCUIT AT DERWENT RESERVOIR SAILING CLUB

The RS Fat Face Racing circuit at Derwent Reservoir Sailing Club on June 2nd 4th was a huge success in some extremely variable weather. This was the first ever RS Racing Circuit in the North East and showed that several of the RS classes are now really true National classes with good numbers and depth in North England/Scotland. Taking advantage of the Jubilee Bank Holiday three races were held on both Sunday and Monday with 2 races on Tuesday. The weather and wind direction was very different for each day giving some very varied racing. Those that travelled up on the Saturday found a relative heat wave and ideal camping/barbecue conditions. Of course this did not last and sailing was held on Sunday in a force 3 from the SE in constant rain with an entertaining 20 minute burst of force 5 in race 2. The evening saw one of the heaviest rain/thunder storms in living memory in the North East. Monday had light showers and patchy sun with a shifty force 2-4 southerly coming off the hills opposite the club. Tuesday was a huge day with a very patchy force 3-5 from the South West with large shifts and holes which made a bad day at Frencham look good. As the day progressed bigger lumps hit the lake and force 5-6 runs saw the 200s and 400s produce some spectacular action.
