RS700 Training - Hayling Island SC, 30th April

Seven RS700 attended the training session at Hayling on the 29th April and were greeted with 2 knots of breeze on arrival. After a briefing on the shore covering boat set up and tacking and gybing the keen students were gifted with a fabulous 10 knots of breeze. These were great conditions to put into practice all of the tips that Matt Humphrey's had shared. Over lunch the debrief had a fairly consistent theme which was to use more kicker upwind and less downwind! The top tip for gybing for beginners was to make sure that you sit on the rack after the gybe (rather than in the middle of the boat) so you can get the spinnaker working and the boat moving and then get out on the wire. After lunch the wind had picked up to over 15 knots and with a short windward leeward course, there was plenty of opportunity to do a bit of swimming! All the participants felt that it had been a great day and that their boat handling and set up had improved considerably.
