Fat Face Racing Circuit � RS700 - Chew Valley Lake SC � 23/24 March 2002 15 RS700s turned up to the 2nd Racing Circuit event of the calendar, held in the wonderful countryside of Somerset. They were shown a very warm welcome by the club members, many of who gave up their whole weekend to put on a fantastic show of race organisation and food preparation. Saturday�s races were sailed in light and shifty conditions, which made for close and exciting racing, with places changing rapidly throughout each race, but it was Tim Johnson from Chew Valley SC who came up trumps, taking line honours in all but the last race of the series to finish 1st overall, leaving a close battle for the other positions to the rest of the fleet. Sunday�s racing saw wonderful sunshine & a fresh breeze blowing down the lake, which made for some exciting reaches. Carl Vining from Datchet Water SC was second overall scoring three 2nds, a 3rd and a 1st. Andy White from Stokes Bay SC was 3rd overall, with three 2nds and two 3rds. It was a fight to the last race for fourth position between Nigel Wallbank from Lymington SC & Tim Garvin from Queen Mary SC, with Garvin letting Wall bank sail to victory on the last reach to the finish line. The endeavour trophy went to newcomer to the fleet, Alan Mackie from Loch Lomond, who drove 8 hours from Scotland to race with other 700s. With more & more 700s turning up to events, this is proving to be a very exciting class indeed; we are all looking forward to an exciting season of racing, with the next event in Carnac over the bank holiday weekend, followed by Hayling Island on the 20/21 April. A big thanks to all at Chew Valley SC who made it a memorable event that everyone thoroughly enjoyed.
