GLORIOUS sunshine greeted the twenty-one RS200s which made it to
Eastbourne for the final event in the Fat Face series.
David Giles and Fiona Clark had already won the series, Gilesy no doubt
having a well earned rest after his Nationals victory and celebrations.
This left other top contenders to fight for the Fat Face vouchers.
Steve and Paula Irish - having led the Nationals over four days of light
breezes, only to lose on the last day when the wind finally came in - were
back on form at Eastbourne to take three firsts on day one in a force one
to two.
Also having a good day was Marshall King in second overnight with 2.2.4,
and last year's National champions Tom & Jo Hewitson, with 3.4.3.
All but one team out of the 21 were hoping during the RS party at the club
afterwards that the breeze which kicked in overnight would hold until
morning.
Sunday dawned with a sunny force two. Race four saw Irish in first, with
Phil and Daniel Sowden, who went on to take the youth prize, in second,
and the Hewitsons third.
Race five saw the Hewitsons take victory leaving Irish second with the
Sowdens a close third.The penultimate race was taken by Irish with the
Sowdens again hot on his transom, especially on the last gybe, with King
in third.
This left the Irish camp in the Magic Marine boat counting five firsts to
win the event.
Prize for the best Doris boat went to Trudie not shopping today Danbury
and Karen Baker.
