The third event in the Southern Area Circuit got under way on Sunday the 11th, with 13 visitors joining 8 home boats at Weir Wood S.C. A windward leeward course was set in a light SSW, with an evenly set line and a shifty beat. The pattern of the day became clear in the first race with a leading bunch of half a dozen boats trading places up the first beat. Local David Giles crewed by his Son Mathew Giles led the way, pursued by Hamish Calder and Lee Sydenham, While Tom and Jo Hewitson recovered from a tricky start into forth place, Ben and Liz Alexander held on to fifth. The second race started promptly afterwards and with many of the starting issues resolved, the Hewitsons won, after a strong challenge from Sydenham, with David Giles in third. Race three after lunch saw David/Mathew Giles swapping places with Lee and Anne, both on the beat, run and beat again and as the wind went left, conditions got shiftier and patchier with big losses and gains to be made up and down wind, David Giles came out on top, winning the race and thus the event, leaving second and third places to be decided in the last race, which was convincingly won by Tom and Jo Hewitson, sailing away from the fleet on the first run, and not challenged again securing second place. Behind them the places were still changing right down to the last run as the wind dropped entirely for the last lap, with Lee Sydenham beating Hamish Calder to take third place. The series now takes a long break over the busy summer until Stewartbyin September
